Important

You must register your funds through Simple Fund 360 before contribution data can be received.

Contribution data has already been received through the SuperStream BGL/Australia Post Gateway for funds that are registered. If the fund is not registered with the BGL/Australia Post Gateway you will not benefit from the contribution data flowing directly into Simple Fund 360 and you risk contribution data being rejected and returned to the clearing house or payroll provider.

Do not wait for the ATO imposed deadlines to register your funds for SuperStream. See instructions below.

Where can I find the Electronic Service Address (ESA)?

The Electronic Service Address (ESA) is required by employers so that they can send contribution data to that address. Each SuperStream Gateway has a unique ESA.

The ESA is available in the Trustee/Employer Notification Letters which can be prepared after you have registered the fund for SuperStream. Refer to the What Should I Do? section on how to prepare these documents if you have already registered the fund for SuperStream.

The ESA will also be saved under Fund | Fund Details.

What is SuperStream?

SuperStream is a government reform designed to enhance the efficiency of the super system. Under SuperStream, employers are required to make super contributions, both data and payment, on behalf of their employees electronically. All super funds, including SMSFs, must receive contribution data and payments electronically in accordance with the SuperStream Standard.

SuperStream Gateways will collect your contribution data from employers and distribute this data to your SMSF.

This means that employers will be able to send superannuation contributions and data to multiple funds in one standard electronic format, instead of sending information to separate funds in multiple formats.

Australia Post will provide Simple Fund 360's SuperStream Gateway

BGL has partnered with Australia Post to provide SuperStream services. Registration can be done directly through Simple Fund 360 free of charge. Do not register directly through Australia Post as a cost will be incurred.

All BGL clients must use Australia Post as their default gateway as Simple Fund 360 will not integrate with any other gateway provider. If you register with another gateway, you will not be able to use the SuperStream data in Simple Fund 360.

What happens if I migrate my funds from Simple Fund to Simple Fund 360?

If you have already registered and paid for SuperStream in Simple Fund, no refund will be provided for a fund upon migration to Simple Fund 360. No further renewal will be required as the service is free in Simple Fund 360 so any correspondence from Australia Post in regards to renewals for a fund now on Simple Fund 360 can be disregarded.

Any prior contribution data obtained via SuperStream prior to migration for the fund will still be accessible from Simple Fund 360 post migration.

Your Clients/SMSF Trustees

Once registered, SMSF Trustees will need to provide the following information to their employer:

  • Self Managed Super Fund name
  • ABN
  • The Electronic Service Address (ESA)
  • BSB and Account Number

An Employer Notification Letter can be generated in Simple Fund 360. This letter can be provided to the employer so the trustee is compliant with the standard.

Which SMSFs need to register?

It is recommended that SMSFs are ready to receive employer contributions in the new SuperStream format from 1 July 2014. See https://www.ato.gov.au/Super/SuperStream/In-detail/Contributions/SuperStream-compliance-statement---employers-and-SMSFs/

Exceptions

The new data standards do not apply to the following:

  • SMSFs that do not receive contributions
  • SMSFs that only receive contributions from a related party (for example, if a trustee is selfemployed)

Before completing the SuperStream registration process, you need to ensure that funds to be registered have the following information input:

From the Main Toolbar, go to Connect.
Select Superstream from the list.

  1. Under the Action column, select the checkbox to the left of each fund you are registering for SuperStream and select Register Fund

  2. The Fund Registration screen will appear. Input additional recipients (up to two) who will receive a copy of the transactional information via email (in PDF format) when contributions are received into the fund.

Select from the following Fund Relationships: Accountant , SMSFTrustee, Lawyer, Financial Planner and Other. By selecting Other you will be able to manually add a contact and email address. If no additional recipients are selected, no email containing transaction data will be sent.

  3. Set the delivery format to PDF.

  4. Acknowledge that you have read the Australia Post gateway service Terms and Conditions

  5. Select Next

  6. The Validation screen will appear. Simple Fund 360 will check the validity of the ABN, the completeness of Fund Relationships (email addresses are input) and whether a fund's ABN has already been registered. Update this information through the validation screen to resolve any validation errors that appear.

  7. Select Register

Simple Fund 360 will allow you to register multiple funds at the one time.

What Should I Do?

Accountant/Administrator

As the accountant/administrator, it is recommended that you contact your clients (SMSF trustees) now and inform them of the new SuperStream requirements (Trustee Notification Letter). You can let them know that you will be registering them with Australia Post through Simple Fund 360 and providing them with the necessary information for them to pass on to their employers (Employer Notification Letter)

How to Generate Notification Letters

You can generate Trustee Notification and Employer Notification Letters through Simple Fund 360 to send to the trustees to advise them about the SuperStream requirements:

  1. From the Main Toolbar, select Connect.
  2. Select the SUPERSTREAM tab.
  3. Select Notification Letters.
  4. You will be directed to the Reports screen. Select the SuperStream Report Pack. The Trustee Notification Letter and Employer Notification Letter can now be generated. If your firm does not have this report pack (as a user may have removed it) the letters are available for adding under Letters/Minutes.
  5. Select OPTIONS | DOWNLOAD PDF. To download both letters, select Download Report Pack.
  6. Alternatively, select OPTIONS | DOWNLOAD WORD, if you wish to customise the letter. See the Custom Reports help for more information on how to customise reports.

Remember to ensure you have registered the funds with Australia Post through Simple Fund 360 before generating the letters to notify the trustees and employers

See Register Funds for more information.

Contribution Data will be automatically downloaded from the Australia Post Gateway into Simple Fund 360 for funds that are registered with Australia Post. Users do not have to manually request for these transactions.

Automatically Matched

Data will automatically match when data feeds are active. The Superstream data and cash transactions entered must meet the following conditions to automatically match the transaction:

  • The total dollar amount are identical.
  • The Superstream data and cash transactions dates are on the same day or the Bank transaction is a day after the contribution transaction.

Suggested Matches

Transactions will appear as a suggested match when the bank transaction date is two to five days after the contribution transaction.

For the transactions to be automatically matched or show as suggested matches, the amount and the member TFN must also match.

Alternatively, the transactions can be posted manually if no data feeds are active or matched manually from the transaction matching screen. Refer to instructions below.

An email with a PDF file containing the contribution transactions will be sent to the email address used to register the fund with Australia Post and to additional recipients added to the SuperStream screen. See How do I add extra recipients for transaction information? section for more information on how to add more recipients.

Common Queries

Which gateway should I register with?

BGL has partnered with Australia Post as our SuperStream Gateway.

This means that Simple Fund 360 will only integrate with that gateway. For your data to flow into Simple Fund 360, you need to register with Australia Post.

What is the Electronic Service Address (ESA)

The Electronic Service Address (ESA) is required by employers so that they can send contribution data to that address. Each SuperStream Gateway has a unique ESA.

The ESA is available in the Trustee/Employer Notification Letters which can be prepared after you have registered the fund for SuperStream. Refer to the What Should I Do? section on how to prepare these documents.

The ESA will also be saved under Fund | Fund Details.

What are the costs involved?

This service will be provided free of charge when registering from Simple Fund 360, you will not need to worry about payments or renewal costs. There are no renewal costs either, as this service is free you do not need to re-register every 12 months.

How can I view the expiry date for a fund's registration?

Since the service is free in Simple Fund 360, there is no registration expiry date for a fund. Each fund will only need to register initially for SuperStream; no fund registrations need to be renewed.

Where can I access the terms and conditions for SuperStream?

https://smsf-gateway-auspost.com.au/terms-and-conditions-BGL360

What if I do not want to register for SuperStream with BGL?

Australia Post is the only supported SuperStream provider for Simple Fund 360. You can register with other providers. However, you will need to complete the registration outside of Simple Fund 360.

One major consideration when using other SuperStream providers is the inability to automate the contribution data into Simple Fund 360. When contribution data comes through into Simple Fund 360, automated matching of contribution data to the bank will only be available to clients registered with Australia Post.

How do I add extra email addresses to which to send the contribution transaction PDFs?

Refer to How do I add extra recipients for transaction information? section of the common support queries.

How do I cancel / deregister a fund from Superstream?

Funds Registered through Simple Fund 360 can be cancelled via the Simple fund 360 program.

From the Superstream screen, tick the registered fund.
